About The Event
~ Helen Svoboda (double bass) presents her newest project, ‘Sprout’.
Joined by Sophie Min (piano) and Simon Svoboda (cello), the trio was formed in mid-2017 to explore a new direction of composition, influenced largely by minimalist music infused with moments of structured improvisation. The blend of the double bass and cello has opened up a world of fresh sonic possibilities, creating a rich blend of texture and counter-melodic interaction beneath the percussive nature of the piano.
Following the release of their debut album, 'Hectic Moon' (released May 2018), Sprout is back in the studio in July to record their second record 'Sleep Cycles', featuring an array of strange track titles that hold little to no connection to each respective work (to be released via Supersonic records in late 2018).

'DOWNEND':
The formation of downend sees this duo move away from standard jazz repertoire and into the unknown. Conor Mcdonald (guitar) and Kayleigh Pincott (vocals) met at the Qld Conservatorium and formed a strong musical bond, which later developed into a regularly performing jazz duo. Inspired by artists such as Bjork, Bon Iver, Ben Monder and Gian Slater, Conor and Kayleigh have been exploring freer and more abstract forms of expression under the moniker, downend. The duo has spent the last few years writing and rehearsing their own original music, which utilises effects pedals, improvisation and looping.
Doors open @7pm for 7:30 start. Tix $10 online and $15 at the door.
